Teefy's First Birthday - 9.28.13

Teef's first birthday party almost didn't happen. I was SO spent from hosting the baby shower I just wasn't sure I was even going to have a party for him. But, I couldn't do that to my favorite little man so of course we did a small something at the house/park. I made it potluck style so I didn't have to worry about feeding everyone by myself, and well, it was a pretty decent party.

So at least the girls were willing to take some of the leftover masks from Renee's shower.

I looked so spent by the end of the night. 

So unfortunately, I realized we didn't even separate out a smaller cake for Teef for him to eat by himself and get messy and cute. Oh well. Maybe when he turns 2 or 21 I will do that. Also, I'm so grateful that Sof was there to take pictures or I would have nothing to remember this day. But seriously, we really need to take at least one picture together at these parties. Like really? It's kind of ridiculous. 

Christina's Birthday Party - 9.28.13

Ummm, how is Christina 9? I really don't understand this. What's amazing is that I think I've been to almost everyone of her birthday parties except for her 1st and 4th I think (The Astronaut one?). Maybe. I could be making this all up. Regardless, Christina is seriously one of the best little girls I know. She is SO SWEET and KIND and I just love her. And now she is nine and I'm slightly creeped out. 

Anyway, Sof had an amazing party for her and unfortunately I don't remember much about the day other than it was a great party. So I stole some pics of the girls from her blog and I will just refresh my memory of the party by going directly to the link:

Great party, great friends, and a busy day as Teef's birthday was celebrated later that afternoon.

Humans of New York - 9.28.13

So what happens when Lateef and his cousin Osakwe go out riding their bikes in New York? They become Internet sensations. As they were pumping up their bikes, a photographer asked to take their picture and asked for a quote. 

Here is what Osakwe said, 

"I'm working on transitioning back into the corporate world after owning my own business."

"What did you learn from trying to start a business?"

"You have to have a partner that's committed to the work, and not just to the idea of having a business. Everybody loves to think of the title, not a lot of people are willing to write the book."

Needless to say, they ended up on the H.O.N.Y Facebook page and ultimately got 26,439 "likes" and the picture was shared 1,309 times. But of course, this is nothing new for the Durosinmi family.

Renee's Baby Shower - 9.21.13

Ahh Renee. Isn't she a gorgeous pregnant mama? I volunteered to host her baby shower and needless to say that was quite stressful. Mostly self-inflicted but what can you do? We were in the process of getting our floors redone right before the shower too so that added an extra element of "AAAHHHH". 

We decided to theme the shower and since Renee came up with "Classy Halloween" (I was hoping to do trashy Halloween and wanted people to come dressed as anything baby - Placenta, umbilical cord, etc. but am glad that didn't happen) and so Lateef suggested a "Masquerade"party and that's what we went with. Below are the invites and only pictures I took that had anything to do with the shower.

 Anyway, I had a "Brunch" shower (because Sofia had shown me how wonderful the food could be at Brunch) and it mostly went off without a hitch. Some guests even said it was the classiest baby shower they had ever attended. Looking back, I wish I would have incorporated a prize for the Best Masquerade mask. People were great about bringing their masks but then we never even addressed them which was stupid on my part. Not to mention, I hand-made about 50 additional masks just in case people didn't bring theirs, and needless to say, there were a lot of extra masks at my house. 

The food was a bit of a mess. I had wanted to make these wonderful breakfast panini that Sof had made at my shower, but ultimately, we ran out of time and settled for a "panini station" which to me = GHETTO. Oh well. There was too much food (always an issue for me) but I guess I would rather have too much than not enough.

For games we kept it simple and played "Guess How Big Renee Is" and "Baby Shower Charades". Both were great but with so many people there (at least 30 I'm thinking), there was a lot of chatting and not a lot of paying attention when it came to the games. Oh well. 

The best part were the cupcakes that Sof made which Renee said were literally like needing CRACK they were so good. I agree. 

Overall, though I would change a few things, I'm glad I was able to do this for my friend, but am also glad I can relax for a while.
